Saturday explorations

This morning started very early at 4:30 am to head out by 5:00 for my hubby’s volleyball tournament. We arrived at the venue by 7:30 and I was headed to Sweetwater Creek State Park. I arrived and was ready to hike by about 8:00.

Sweetwater Creek State Park is located at

1750 Mount Vernon Road
Lithia Springs, GA

I decided to hike the red blaze to the white blaze for about a 5 mile hike. On the red blazed trail you will pass the Mill Ruins.

Soon after the Mill Ruins, as you cross to the white blaze you get a warning that the proceeding trail is moderate to strenuous. I was a little worried, but decided to go for it. There were quite a few people on the trails so I felt ok trying to make it.

The white blazed trail is quite rocky and hilly and narrow in some spots. At one point, I wasn’t able to find my way and decided to turn back with hesitation. Soon a couple of hikers came up on me and I asked how to find how to continue the white blaze. They actually kept an eye on me for a few miles to make sure I could find my way. The trail was very well marked except for this one area.

I completed the trail in a little over 2 hours. It wasn’t the hardest I’ve ever done, but the terrain was rough in some areas proving to be difficult for me while hiking alone.

After my hike, I decided to grab some Starbucks for breakfast and then continued on to Smith Gilbert Gardens.

Smith Gilbert Gardens is located at

2382 Pine Mountain Road
Kennesaw, Georgia

Today the gardens were a little underwhelming. For the most part, there was a large display of daffodils throughout, but only a few other varieties blooming to see. It seemed there was much work to be done there to spruced the grounds up.

After the gardens, I headed to find a historic rural church of Georgia. Van Wert Methodist Church located in Rockmart, Georgia was my destination for today.

Van Wert Methodist Church was formed in 1846. You can check out all the details at the following link Van Wert Methodist Church

On the way to the church, I passed a really old hotel sign, that I had to stop for a quick photo.

It was a late day at volleyball…the matches didn’t end until close to 9:00 pm. What a long day!

On to my next adventures

XOXO
